Opening of windmill De Korenbloem

The name of this beautiful windmill is “De Korenbloem” (The Cornflower), and its function is to grind grain. The mill was built in 1798 as an octagonal tower mill with angled braces.

In 1888, the platform was in such poor condition that it was demolished and replaced with sand to support the mill. From that time until 1991, the mill was therefore a belt mill.

Top-turning mill

The mill is also called a top-turning mill because only the cap with wheels can be turned into the wind. The length of each sail is 12 meters. The span is therefore 24 meters (from top to top). The cap is covered with reeds. The octagon (the waisted body of the mill) is covered with shingles made of tarred oak. These shingles, which overlap in three layers, are typical of East Twente and the Gelderland Achterhoek. We also encounter them across the border. It is very likely that the mill once functioned as a hulling mill. The mill does not consist of upper floors, but of a ground floor with four attics.

This former tower mill from 1798 was restored in 1993 into an octagonal tower mill with a sail span of 24 meters and features an Old Dutch-style stern with adjustable sails. The interior features one pair of 16-inch natural stone millstones and a drag-type cap. The construction consists of a masonry brick base and a wooden body covered with shingles. The cap is wood covered with thatch. Click here for some historical background information.

Hoksebargse Möll’n Association

The Hoksebargse Möll’n Association was founded in 1987, with the aim of: “promoting the preservation and original use of the mill”. The association organizes guided tours and demonstration days.
